Physicians for PeaceDetailed DescriptionPhysicians for Peace is seeking a volunteer surgeon to serve as a visiting member of the Surgical Department and run the Surgical Training Project at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital/College of Medicine in Blantyre, Malawi. The volunteer will provide primarily hands-on training and some lectures according to a general surgical curriculum. Both active and retired FACS surgeons are encouraged to apply. Physicians for Peace and QECH/COM will provide airfare, housing, support staff, and a car for local use, as well as a small stipend to defray living expenses.
A three month commitment is required, but longer commitments are preferable. Interested volunteers should send their CV and a copy of their active medical license to Innes Boland below.
Program description:
Volunteers with general surgery and specialty surgical expertise are needed to provide hands-on surgical training, occasional classroom teaching, and surgical mentorship to surgical trainees and senior level medical students. The volunteers will work in conjunction with the Head of Surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Dean of the College of Medicine and the . Family members are welcome to join at their own expense.
Physicians For Peace will oversee the arrangements for travel, necessary documentation, coordination with the host hospital staff and faculty.
